Jalal Jaffer, K.C.

Biography

Jalal Jaffer, KC is a highly esteemed lawyer with over 30 years of experience as both a litigator and a solicitor. During those years, Jalal has honed his skills in various areas, including civil litigation, commercial and residential real estate, corporate law and estate planning. His broad-based general practice reflects a versatile skill set and a deep understanding of legal complexities in multiple domains. His proficiency as counsel was recognized in 2015 when he was appointed Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel), a designation reflecting excellence in practice and a commitment to the legal profession that is reserved for no more than 7 percent of lawyers in British Columbia. 

Born and raised in East Africa, Jalal embarked on an illustrious journey that led him to become a prominent figure in the Canadian legal landscape. After completing his university education in London, England, Jalal pursued his passion for law at the University of British Columbia, where he earned his law degree in 1977. His dedication and commitment to the legal profession were evident from the outset as he articled with Peterson Stark after completing his studies. He would remain with the same firm for the next 35 years, showcasing not only his loyalty but also the trust and confidence bestowed upon him by his colleagues and clients. In 2024 Jalal, along with his colleagues from Peterson Stark Scott, joined Hamilton Duncan, where he now enhances the firm with his legal prowess as associate counsel. 

In addition to his legal pursuits, Jalal has taken on senior leadership roles within the Canadian Ismaili Muslim Community, exemplifying his commitment to community service and leadership. His involvement in such roles demonstrates not only his legal acumen but also his dedication to contributing positively to the broader societal fabric. 

Beyond his professional achievements, Jalal has embarked on extensive travel experiences and has an avid interest in sports. These pursuits not only enrich his personal life but also contribute to a well-rounded perspective that he brings to his legal practice.
