Suzannah M. Denholm LinkedIn

I can help clients navigate the difficult, and sometimes confusing, process of litigation.

Biography

Suzannah Denholm is a litigation lawyer and a long-time resident of Surrey. She completed her undergraduate degree at Carleton University School of Journalism, and her law degree at the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999 and the British Columbia Bar in 2001.

Suzannah is a litigator with particular experience in resolving personal law claims, either in court or otherwise. She began working at Hamilton Duncan in 2015 after working at large firms in Ottawa and in downtown Vancouver where she appeared at all levels of Canadian courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Suzannah focuses her practice on estate litigation, elder law, and trust litigation. Suzannah has experience in assisting elders who are facing economic abuse, and she can help when family and friends see an elder loved one in financial trouble. Suzannah can prepare and argue court applications for Committeeship for families of incompetent adults who are no longer capable of managing their personal or financial affairs. Suzannah has experience bringing and defending claims involving varying family trusts, and she can assist beneficiaries and trustees in applications to pass trustee or executor accounts. Suzannah regularly acts for parties who are disputing the validity of a Will or a large financial gift, as well as in wills variation lawsuits where a child or spouse has been disinherited. Finally, Suzannah can assist executors of disputed estates to help in difficult administrations, where beneficiaries or others are questioning their actions.

Suzannah recognizes that estate and trust disputes are often disputes among family members, and court is not always the best solution. Suzannah can help clients explore alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration, as well as navigate the court system if necessary.

Suzannah also has specialized skills in analyzing medical negligence claims and bringing them forward. She has represented patients who have successfully sought compensation for injuries caused by physicians, naturopaths and dentists, she has assisted patients who wish to dispute MSP denials of funding, and she can help if a patient has a complaint about a medical professional or hospital that is more appropriately dealt with by professional regulation, rather than court proceedings.
