Biography
Jiya Dassan is an associate litigator in Hamilton Duncan’s Commercial and Civil Litigation and Estate and Trust Litigation groups
Jiya’s journey with Hamilton Duncan began during her time as a summer student following her second year of law school at the University of British Columbia. Her dedication and work ethic led her back to the firm to complete her articles following her graduation in 2023 and eventually, ultimately, to an offer to join the firm as an associate. Known for her hands-on approach to learning, Jiya has been actively involved in numerous cases from the outset, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in the legal profession.
Jiya believes strongly in the importance of community engagement. While attending school, she was a part of the South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA), Legal Education Outreach (LEO), and HoopLaw where she presented on various law related topics, increased member activations, and was a part of the planning committee. During her student terms with the firm, she participated in various community events including Movies Under the Stars hosted annually in Surrey’s Holland Park, and a plethora of golf tournaments and networking events, fostering connections beyond the courtroom.
With proficiency in English, Punjabi, and Hindi, Jiya not only navigates the complexities of the legal world but also bridges cultural gaps, enhancing her ability to serve a diverse clientele.
Outside of her legal endeavors, Jiya cherishes moments spent with her family and friends, decompressing with a workout at the gym, and embarking on adventures to new destinations.
